When was memorial day declared a national holiday?
Armistice Day became a national holiday by 1938 and this was renamed Veterans Day in 1954. After that, An act of Congress changed Memorial Day from every May 30th to the last Monday in May in 1971. From that day, it is celebrated as Memorial Day.
