‘We stayed with Pablo Quintanilla for about 30 minutes; after we restarted, it was difficult’ – Luciano Benavides

The Argentine reflected on assisting the Chilean rider, an effort he shared with Adrien van Beveren (Monster Energy Honda): ‘It’s never easy to see a fellow rider crash, so Adrien and I stopped to help Pablo and we stayed with him for about 30 minutes’.

Benavides adopted an aggressive approach, which paid off, as he explained:

– After we restarted, it was difficult because the crash is always playing on your mind but you have to just keep going. Despite having to ride in the dust from many riders and make several overtakes, I pushed really hard and it paid off with my first stage win of the race, which is amazing.

Pablo Quintanilla exits the race

After a crashed at the 133km mark, he was taken care by the medical team for first checks. He has hurt his shoulder and will not continue the rally.

Following second place in 2020 and 2022, he was taking part in his thirteenth edition of the Dakar and occupied seventh place in the general rankings at the beginning of the day’s stage.

Pablo Quintanilla: I’m out of the race today due to a very big crash I had 130 kilometres into the stage. I was on a high speed piste which had many intersections and one of them had a really high edge.

The Dakar Rally has the reputation to be the ‘world’s toughest motor race’, and it was the brainchild of French adventurer Thierry Sabine.
