Racing community is in shock due to untimely passing away of 24 yr old Irish jockey Michael O’Sullivan, who succumbed to injuries from a fall at Thurles Racecourse on February 6. Known for his exceptional talent and humility, Michael’s legacy continues as his family has chosen to donate his organs, offering the gift of life to others.

The world of horse racing is in mourning after the devastating news that jockey Michael O’Sullivan has died in the early hours of Sunday morning. Our most heartfelt condolences are with Michael’s family, partner, friends and colleagues.

Dr Jennifer Pugh, chief medical officer of the IHRB, said in a statement: “Michael’s family took the decision to donate his organs at this incredibly difficult time, but in doing so made a choice that will make a real difference to the lives of other patients and their families.

Michael O’Sullivan has died 10 days after suffering critical injuries in a fall at Thurles Racecourse, the IHRB confirmed. The 24-year-old jockey, who rode 90 winners in Ireland, was airlifted to the hospital and placed in intensive care. His family, gathered at Cork University Hospital, made the decision to donate his organs.

Michael’s success and his humility will have inspired many and I share the feeling of loss today with all those who knew him.”
