French skier Margot Simond dies in training accident at 18

18-year-old skier Margot Simond died this Thursday in Val d’Isère following a fall during training.

The French skier was training for the Red Bull Alpine Park ski event, which was canceled following the devastating news.

It said Margot Simond died on Thursday at Val d’Isere.

“Our thoughts are with the French Ski Federation, the Savoie Ski Committee, the Club des Sports des Saisies, and the entire ski community, who are deeply affected by the loss of Margot,” the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) said in a statement.

Val-d’Isère confirmed the cancellation of the event in an Instagram post late on Thursday, and provided the following statement, “We extend our sincere condolences to Margot’s parents, family and friends.”

The FIS released a statement sharing their condolences with Simond’s family, friends, and fellow competitors:

“The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has learned with great sadness of the tragic passing of Margot Simond, a promising young athlete from the Savoie Ski Committee and the Club des Sports des Saisies, who died on April 24, 2025, in Val d’Isère.

The French Ski Federation said the skiing community was “deeply affected and saddened by Margot’s passing”.

“We wish to express our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones and assure them of our full support during these particularly trying times,” a statement read.
