Bayern’s Neuer out with calf injury

Bayern confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Neuer had sustained “a torn muscle fibre in his right calf” and “will therefore be out for the foreseeable future”. Neuer has played in the majority of Bayern’s games so far this season, featuring 33 times across all competitions.

“Manuel Neuer suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right calf in the 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League game on Wednesday evening,” Bayern said in a statement on Thursday.

Manuel Neuer suffered a freak injury 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Jamal Musiala’s goal against Leverkusen.

Bayern Munich has confirmed Neuer will remain out of action for the foreseeable future with a torn muscle fibre in his calf.

He will miss at least 3-4 games, including the return leg in Leverkusen. Jonas Urbig will replace him in goal

Revealing the extent of the injury, the club said in a statement: “Manuel Neuer suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right calf.

“The diagnosis was confirmed by the FC Bayern medical unit. [He] will therefore be out for the foreseeable future.”

Boss Vincent Kompany said: “It happens sometimes.

“It’s a pity, but we’ve always talked about the squad.

“That’s how we’ve come so far, in the league and where we are, and that’s how it’s going to stay.”

Fans called on Neuer to retire following the injury, with one saying: “He’s 39 in 3 weeks time surely this is going to be a career ending injury.”

A second said: “Time for retirement.”

A third added: “Time to retire buddy.”
