She managed her family’s textile business during World War II and lived to the age of 116 years and 220 days.

The world’s oldest person, Japanese woman Tomiko Itooka, died aged 116 on December 29 at a nursing home where she resided since 2019, the city where she lived, Ashiya, announced on Saturday.
She was born on May 23, 1908.

A woman that Guinness World Records previously named as the world’s oldest person has died, the organization announced Saturday.
The world’s oldest person, Tomiko Itooka of Japan, died the night of Dec. 29. She died from natural causes and lived to be 116 years and 220 days old.
She was born in May 1908 – six years before World War I, and the same year that the Ford Model T car was launched in the US.
“Ms Itooka gave us courage and hope through her long life,” Ashiya’s 27-year-old mayor Ryosuke Takashima said in a statement.

Tomiko Itooka (née Yano) was born on 23 May 1908, in Osaka, Empire of Japan..
She was said as the oldest living person by Guinness World Records in September 2024 after the death of Maria Branyas.
She died on 29 December 2024, at the age of 116 years and 220 days, at a nursing home in Ashiya.
Following her death, 116-year-old Inah Canabarro Lucas of Brazil became the world’s oldest living person and the last survivor born in 1908.
