Rey Mysterio Sr., the uncle of WWE superstar Rey Mysterio Jr., has passed away on December 20, 2024 at the age of 66. His real name was Miguel Angel Lopez Dias.

Rey Mysterio Sr. was a Mexican wrestler who won championships with the World Wrestling Association and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He was known for his high-flying style and inspired many fans and athletes. He retired in 2009, but wrestled again in 2023.

Lucha Libre fan Rogelio Gomez told the Press that “King Misterio Sr.” was one of the best luchadors he’d ever seen.”

It was a somber day as we said goodbye to an icon, a family man, a legend, a teacher, and above all, a friend. The funeral of Rey Misterio was a celebration of a beautiful life and a wonderful man. I cannot thank Damian enough for organizing this event, as it was always the wishes of Miguel Angel to have a celebration of life at the building that he helped make famous back in the 1980’s.
We truly lost a great man. I’m going to miss him so much. Adios mi amigo y gracias por las recuerdos.
