Personal Life Born on June 5, Nkechi Nweje was married to Dr. Azubuike Nweje. The couple was blessed with five children, including twin daughters and grandchildren. In 2022, they celebrated the traditional marriage of their second daughter, Oma, reflecting a close-knit and loving family.

Passing Tragically, reports indicate that Nkechi Nweje passed away on March 21, 2025, after a brief illness. Her death was confirmed by producer Stanley Ontop, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting her vibrant presence in Nollywood. Nkechi Nweje’s legacy in Nollywood remains significant, and she will be remembered for her dedication to her craft and the memorable characters she brought to life on screen.

Stanley expressed shock and disbelief at Nweje’s sudden demise, saying “I’m still speechless.”

The filmmaker also paid a heartfelt tribute to Nweje, describing her as a vibrant actress who was his “best friend and mentor.”

He recalled how in their last conversation during the “Queenth saga” she advised him to stop. He ended the post by saying, “I am still speechless”.

He wrote, “Nollywood is in tears as we lost one of our vibrant Nollywood actresses @nkechi.nweje after a brief illness. I couldn’t post since morning because it was like a dream to me.

“Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha, rest in peace ma’am, my best friend, she always call me on phone advising me. The last time we spoke was during Queenth saga, she said Ontop stop. Am still speechless.”
