Who was Paquita la del Barrio?
Francisca Viveros Barradas (April 2, 1947 – February 17, 2025), known professionally as Paquita la del Barrio (“Paquita from the neighborhood”), was a Mexican singer.
An iconic voice, a unique way of saying things, and an icon of Mexican music and especially of women’s empowerment with her songs: Paquita la del Barrio. Today she has returned to the Father’s house where she was surely received with much light and love.
She was a Grammy-nominated performer of rancheras, boleros and other traditional and contemporary Mexican musical genres.
After the funeral in Xalapa, Veracruz, Paquita la del Barrio’s remains will be cremated and transferred to La Casa Paquita, in the Guerrero neighborhood of Mexico City. The singer is scheduled to receive a tribute at the Palacio de Bellas Artes over the weekend.
Hoy, la voz que convirtió el desamor en himnos para varias generaciones se ha apagado, pero su legado sigue más vivo que nunca.
