Buvaysar Saitiev was a native of Khasavyurt, he died on March 2 at the age of 49. He was a three-time Olympic champion in 1996, 2004, 2008 (in the weight category up to 74 kg), a six-time world and European champion. In 1995, he became an Honored Master of Sports of Russia and was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, the Order of Honor and the Order of Friendship. Saitiev ended his sports career in 2009.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the family and friends of three-time Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Buvaisar Saitiev, who died at the age of 49.
In his statement, the head of state called Saitiev a “legendary” representative of the domestic school of freestyle wrestling.

“Everyone who knew Buvaisar Khamidovich sincerely respected him not only as a talented athlete, but also as a bright, extraordinary, goal-oriented person,” Putin said in a statement published on the Kremlin website.
Saitiev’s widow, Indira, who was not at home at the time of her husband’s death, said that she did not know the reasons for what happened, writes IA Regnum.
“They say he fell out of the bedroom. Our windows don’t open there. He was always there trying to see why they wouldn’t open. I looked too, I don’t know. I didn’t see, I can’t say he did this or that,” she said.
