Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa found dead in Santa Fe home

Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their Santa Fe home Wednesday afternoon. Per authorities, there is no immediate indication of foul play, though a cause of death was not provided.

Hackman, who won Oscars for “Unforgiven” and “The French Connection,” was 95. Arakawa was 63.

Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog were dead for some time, warrant shows.

“He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa,” his daughters and granddaughter said in a statement Thursday. “We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.”

“I have no idea,” the subdivision’s caretaker said. “I am not inside the house. It’s closed. It’s locked. I can’t go in. But I can see she’s laying down on the floor from the window.”

“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.

“This is an active investigation – however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor,” said Mr Mendoza, as quoted by BBC.

Mr Mendoza didn’t provide clarity on the cause or time of death.

“All I can say is that we’re in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant,” he added.
