Tyler Sabapathy (18), a Temple University freshman & award-winning gymnast, tragically fell from a light pole during the Eagles’ NFC Championship celebrations.

UPDATE: The pole climber who fell, – 18 year old Tyler Sabapathy – passed away from his injuries yesterday.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Tyler was a student at Temple University in Philadelphia.

In a heartfelt statement, Temple President John Fry and Vice President for Student Affairs Jodi Bailey expressed their sorrow over the loss of the first-year student.

“It is with deep sadness that we write to share news of the death of first-year student Tyler Sabapathy. Over the weekend, Tyler sustained critical injuries and ultimately passed away this afternoon,” Bailey said.

“The loss of a promising 18-year-old man like Tyler is both tragic and traumatic. There are no words that can make sense of it, and the entire Temple community mourns his passing. Our hearts go out to Tyler’s family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and loved him.”

“You don’t want to be in a celebratory moment, you know, have a tragedy occur,” Parker said. “Please don’t climb the poles.”

“Tyler lost his grip and balance, fell backward from the pole, and hit his head on the concrete sidewalk,” stated witnesses who captured the moment on their phones.
