A significant section of the Santa Cruz Wharf in California collapsed today amid intense winter storms and high surf conditions.
The collapse occurred around 12:45 p.m., and it involved approximately 150 feet of the pier’s end, which included public restrooms, the closed Dolphin Restaurant, and construction equipment used for ongoing repairs from previous storm damage.
The end of the Santa Cruz Wharf collapsed about three hours ago. People are advised to avoid the beach and the Bay.
Three people were on the wharf when it collapsed. Two of them had to be rescued and one got out on their own.

“As the latest in a series of storms battered the West Coast, a large westerly swell brought the threat of breaking waves up to 30 or 35 feet to the beaches,” weather.com meteorologist Sara Tonks said. “A buoy north of Santa Cruz near Port Arena, California, reported winds gusting up to 36 mph and wave heights up to 25 feet earlier in the day Monday.”

Santa Cruz Wharf collapses
SCPD has been requested to go to the Santa Cruz wharf to assist in evacuations. There is no major damage there, but they did lose water to sue waves hitting the under the wharf infrastructure
“Stay out of the water, you’re putting your life at risk and the lives of the people that have to then try and save you,” the agency wrote in a social media post.
“Dangerous and life-threatening beach conditions are forecast with very high surf, rip currents, sneaker waves, and coastal flooding through Tuesday for ALL beaches along the Pacific Coast,” warned the National Weather Service in San Francisco.
